* A little about the course instructor and Trigpoint Hillwalking.

Anthony Phippard was a member of the armed forces for 12 years with a paramedical background; during this time he studied nautical navigation and performed navigational duties at sea when not performing his medical duties. He has also served with the Royal Marines both in mainland UK and Norway where he underwent arctic survival training.

He has navigated Ben Nevis, Snowdon and Scarfel Pike and has spent too much time on both Dartmoor and Exmoor performing day and night navigation for comfort!. He has also trekked in Nepal and has completed the UK's Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for charity.

Anthony is a qualified and experienced adult teacher and has been involved in a number of learning environments for 25 years. He now works as a senior member of an operating theatre team, leading the paediatric surgical services in a local NHS hospital. Anthony is trained in advanced life support for children. He trains and assesses students in a range of operating theatre work.

Trigpoint Hillwalking has developed from Anthony’s love of being out on the hillsides, moors, fells and just anywhere off the beaten track. He has successfully instructed many students in lowland hillwalking and land navigation skills and techniques (some of the student’s comments can be seen in the “Guest book’ section of this website). This allows Anthony to share his enthusiasm with other walkers and land navigation enthusiasts of every ability (and in order to have an excuse to do even more hillwalking!).
